Remote Sensing/Satellite Imagery

There are various sources of remote sensing data across Canada. A lot of this data is available in Google Earth Engine (more datasets here as well as through the Awesome GEE Community Catalog), which is often a great option for processing this type of data. Some of the most useful sources for the ZULE Lab are listed below:

Dataset Organization Description Date File Format Link
Digital Raster Acquisition Project Eastern Ontario (DRAPE) Land Information Ontario The orthophotography has a pixel resolution of 16cm and is accurate to 45 centimetres on the ground at 95%. 2019-2020 CSV, SHP, GeoJSON, KML https://geohub.lio.gov.on.ca/datasets/lio::digital-raster-acquisition-project-eastern-ontario-drape-2019-2020/about

Landsat 8 USGS This dataset contains atmospherically corrected surface reflectance and land surface temperature derived from the data produced by the Landsat 8 OLI/TIRS sensors. 2013-present TIFF https://developers.google.com/earth-engine/datasets/catalog/landsat-8
Landsat 9 USGS This dataset contains atmospherically corrected surface reflectance and land surface temperature derived from the data produced by the Landsat 9 OLI/TIRS sensors. 2021-present TIFF https://developers.google.com/earth-engine/datasets/catalog/landsat-9
Sentinel 5p ESA Data useful for assessing air quality. Measures atmospheric concentrations of ozone, methane, formaldehyde, aerosol, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide, and sulphur dioxide, as well as cloud characteristics at a spatial resolution of 0.01 arc degrees. 2018-present TIFF https://developers.google.com/earth-engine/datasets/catalog/sentinel-5p
Sentinel 2 (note: NDVI can be calculated from this data) ESA The S2 Multispectral Instrument (MSI) samples 13 spectral bands: visible and NIR at 10 meters, red edge and SWIR at 20 meters, and atmospheric bands at 60 meters spatial resolution. It provides data suitable for assessing state and change of vegetation, soil, and water cover. 2017-present TIFF https://developers.google.com/earth-engine/datasets/catalog/sentinel-2
High Resolution Digital Elevation Model (HRDEM) Natural Resources Canada For DTM datasets, derived data available are slope, aspect, shaded relief, color relief and color shaded relief maps and for DSM datasets, derived data available are shaded relief, color relief and color shaded relief maps. 2016-2021 TIFF https://search.open.canada.ca/openmap/957782bf-847c-4644-a757-e383c0057995
